Sooo...I'm a slacker. But at least I hand-wrote my journal entries so I could update day-by-day.
We decided to head south after much deliberation and decided to save Venice and N. Italy for our **next trip**!! I was more than pleasantly surprised!
I slept a bit on the modern day "chariot" that take us to the coast and woke up to Lina saying "do you see this?" and when I looked out the right window, it was the most gorgeous view of the water and the coast. Beautiful day, lots of sun and a bit warmer but breezy.
Stopped in Naples to take a few pics. It's a big sea port and there were a few cruise ships in the harbor. It seemed war-torn, dangerous and dirty. We weren't off the bus a minute and a little beggar girl was out begging. Strangely, I was afraid of her and generally of Naples.
The next day I would find out that not too long ago, they found a mortar shell in Naples from WWII, and had to evacuate portions of the city to disengage it. Such a strange concept! The one thing Lina and I marveled about was how much history there was! The US has only had two major attacks on their soil in the history of war, and yet places like Italy were bombed on a daily basis. I can't even fathom that!
We didn't really get to see much of Naples, and sadly, I was ok with that. Took some neat pics and grabbed Lina her ONLY pistachio gelato for the whole trip!
We got back on the bus and headed to Pompeii. Which, will get it's OWN blog page.
