Italy Day 2

I cannot believe how amazing the food is here. If I don't gain a million pounds it will be a miracle. Fortunately, I am walking a bazillion miles. Today I had my first authentic Italian breakfast. You order at a counter, stand there while you drink your cappucino and eat your pastry. That's it! We then ventured over to the Collesseum. OMG! It was huge, beautiful, breathtaking, amazing! We got to go on a tour and our tour guide was quite entertaining. I learned a lot, but what I can't tell you.
We then walked over to the Forum and Senate which is fascinating. Did you know ancient Romans used urine to clean their clothes? Me neither! And, to help with the scent, they crushed bay leaves and mixed it in to make them smell better. Did you also know that the marriage tradition of carrying a bride across the threshold is a mark of celebrating the Raping of the Sabines. Not a romantic tradition. So, after all the years of harassing John about not doing it, I am sort of glad!

We then made friends with this great girl from New Zealand, who is a wine maker, working in Italy. We hung out with her for the rest of the day. Of course, making friends wherever we go!

We walked ALL OVER Rome today, and really got to get a feel for the sites, sounds, people and culture. Today's menu: Breakfast - cappucino and pastry; Lunch - Proseco (Italian sparkling wine) with a traditional Italian 4 cheese pizza and cafè with grappa; Snack - chips, nuts and Proseco with an orange liquer; Dinner - orangini (rice ball) and stuffed zucchini blossoms, ravioli with sage and oil, and vino. ($5 for half a bottle!!!)

And - of course GELATO!! Count - 3. I am totally slacking. Had chocolate mousse gelato today. Mmmmmmmmm.....good. And, I officially know how to ask where to find gelato. Bonjourno! Dovè a gelateria? I have also learned some other words and phrases.... :)

That's all for day two.
Ciào!
